She’s the smiling face that greets you when you walk into our office and she’s the support system managing the phones when you give us a call. For over 30 years, Teresa Taylor has been the backbone of our business, handling the day to day challenges at reception. Whether you are a client of ours or an employee, odds are you have had the pleasure of interacting with Teresa. But have you had the chance to get to know her? Let’s take a closer look at the woman behind reception.
Q: Tell us about your history with Entech. When did you start?
I started in June of 1990 when my son was 4 and my daughter was 3. I had gone to Dorsey Business School, so I knew I wanted to do office work. I started at the Warren office, then moved to Troy.
Q: So you were around back when Janet, Amy’s mom, owned the business. How has it been watching that evolution?
Yes I was. We’ve always been women owned so that has always been at the center of what we do. But it's definitely become a more casual, laid back environment over the years. They’ve added a workout room and regular office lunches. Amy and Kathy are so oriented towards trying to keep everyone here energized and happy.
Q: Tell us a little about working at the front desk. What is it that you enjoy the most?
I enjoy working with people. You get to meet new people every day and you get to help them. Sometimes it can be hard, but you have to learn to not let people get to you. Both of my parents were patient, so I learned patience from them. Working with all these people, you never know what to expect. You’d think after all these years I would know everything, but you really never know what’s going to happen up here. There are also a lot of people who are super grateful, and that’s the best. You will get a lot of people calling and saying how thankful they are for the opportunities we give them.
Q: You mentioned you have two kids. Can you tell us more about your family?
Both of my children are grown now. My daughter has 3 girls of her own. Spending time with them is number one for me. That’s why I am so grateful for Entech. They are so willing to let people work part time and they are understanding of peoples’ needs. I started working part time this year so I can spend more time with my grandkids.
Last year on Easter, my house burned down. Everyone was there. I was playing with the girls in the back and I could smell something burning—so I ran in and saw there was a fire in the garage. Everyone was safe thankfully, but flash forward four months and we are still trying to get the house fixed. I had family members that weren’t able to take time off work, but I didn’t have to worry about that. I knew Entech would give me the time I needed and they did. Additionally, they gave me clothes to wear since a lot of mine burned.
I have loved working at Entech because they are good people. It has been a lifetime of memories, and I am glad I got to start at almost the beginning of it.
Thank you for sharing a lifetime of memories with us, T. We love you!
